So... yeah. I got sick. and not only like in the cool way, I was sicker than a dog. I had, what the Americans call "the flu". But the BRASILEIRAS have MUCH more beautiful name for it, GRIPE. It rhymes with yippee! But trust me, I wasn't screaming yippee when I had it. Before serving a mission, I imagined being home sick would be like being home sick from school. And in some ways, it is. You sleep a lot, read a lot (of scripture), and your mom/companion makes you food. (No, Sister Barros is not my mom, she is my companion. I know they are not the same thing) However, when you're home sick from school, typically you'll watch a movie, talk with your friends or family, and understand what medicine you're taking. But here, I didn't do any of that. I stayed in bed, took some drugs that I was told to take (I did check before I took them mom, I'm fine), read my scriptures and some conference talks (still waiting on a few of you to send me your favorites...), cleaned up our area book...twice, and practiced lessons. Oh I also cried a few times but what's new?

I am doing a lot better today! My zone leaders and district leader were very glad to see that I hadn't died.

MOVING ON....

Spiritual thought:

Our stake president shared this yesterday at stake conference and it stuck out to me.

"When was the last time your shared your testimony of the Book of Mormon? When was the last time you invited a friend to church? When was the last time you dove into the new Testament?"

Now I know that these might seem rhetorical for a missionary to answer. But, they aren't to me. I have such a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon and love to share it! Learning a new language however, makes that hard. I can't put all that I feel and know about the Book of Mormon into Portuguese quite yet. I feel that I have used the same phrases about it about a hundred and one times BUT. THIS ISNT THE END. Each time I share my testimony, I try and make up a new sentence or phrase, using words that I know and kinda know. I've even said a few things in English. Because when you are testifying of the Savoir and His gospel, it doesn't matter what language you use, the language of the Spirit is universal!!

Ooooh okay. Sorry about that. Okay, now, I want to ask YOU these questions.

"When was the last time your shared your testimony of the Book of Mormon? When was the last time you invited a friend to church? When was the last time you dove into the new Testament?"

I'd love to hear your testimonies of the Book of Mormon if you'd want to share it with me!

KACHOW MOMENT:

This week we were working in the area of the other sisters and we were waiting to find a specific street to start knocking doors. We walked past this BEAUTIFUL BABY PINK HOUSE, and I felt the Spirit tell me to go and knock. This was the start of my sickness so my voice was going in and out but I managed to start up a conversation with this shirtless man. He seemed so interested! We gave him a book of Mormon and set up a date for the other Sisters to come back and visit. Then, he asked if we wanted any water or a sweet snack...DUH. He gave us *clean ICE COLD water and a peanut butter bar treat that WAS SO GOOD. Again, follow the Spirit, it's sweet ;)

Things to pray for:

-my skin. I'm having some sort of reaction to something and it sucks. I'm going to the dermatologist today. Pray that we can take care of it here and without issues

-Elder Schaeffer

I love you all so much! I love your emails and messages throughout the week! They're so fun!
